Pedestrian killed in road crash in Ras Al Khaimah

An investigation has been launched after a pedestrian was killed in a road crash in Ras Al Khaimah.

The 57-year-old man died at the scene after being struck by a car when he tried to cross the road without checking if it was safe to do so, police said.

The vehicle was being driven by a 26-year-old Emirati man.

Emergency services were alerted at 6.10pm on Thursday.

“The accident occurred when the man tried to cross the road without checking if the road was clear,” said Brigadier General Mohammed Al Humaidi of RAK Police.

“His body has been handed over to the family for burial and the case has been referred to prosecutors for legal action.

Brig Gen Al Humaidi urged pedestrians to avoid crossing the road from undesignated areas.

He also urged motorists to avoid speeding and follow the traffic rules.
