Bus paper tickets will no longer be accepted in Al Ain City and Al Dhafra.
Starting from September 30, the Department of Transport said on Thursday, bus users will only be able to travel using a Hafilat smart cards.
The department said that the implementation of the automated payment system aims to increase the quality of services offered to the public.
Hafilat Smart Cards will be available for purchase from all bus stations in Al Ain and Al Dhafra at ticket offices and vending machines.
The automated fare collection system was first implemented in Abu Dhabi in May 2015.
Coin boxes on buses were completely removed on October 2015 and replaced with the Hafilat – which mean bus in Arabic – smart cards.
