DUBAI // The emirate’s Expo 2020 bid received an unexpected boost last night when the former Baywatch star, Pamela, Anderson posted a message of support on Twitter.

The actress tweeted to her 972,223 followers that Dubai should win the bid.

“I back Dubai to win the World Expo bid in 2020 & support @HHShkMohd’s vision @DubaiExpo2020,” she wrote.

Anderson’s support is the latest in a long line of endorsements. Most have come from diplomatic allies such as the UK and Canada.

Canada’s foreign minister, John Baird, has said: “Canada believes it is time for the Middle East to host the world at a time of such hope and challenge in the region.

“Dubai is best placed to bring together the most diverse group of peoples from around the world to share ideas, aspirations and concrete solutions for the future.”

Anderson’s endorsement came three days after the actress, Lindsay Lohan, posted a similar message on the social networking website.

“Help support Dubai to win the World Expo in 2020 & support @HHShkMohd’s vision @DubaiExpo2020,” she tweeted.

The message ended with “I do” and a smiley face emoticon.

Other celebrity backers on Twitter, not connected to an official campaign, include Khloe Kardashian, LaToya Jackson and Tish Cyrus, the mother of the pop star Miley Cyrus.

The final vote on the Expo will take place in Paris on November 27.
