DUBAI // Pakistan has appointed a new Consul General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Javed Jalil Khattak presented his commission of appointment letter to ambassador Abdul Rehman Al-Shamlan, director of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Dubai yesterday.

Mr Khattak, a career diplomat, replaces Tariq Iqbal Soomro who completed his term in August.

Upon taking office on September 9, Mr Khattak offered condolences to Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, following the death of his sister Sheikha Alia bint Mohammed Al Qasimi.

Mr Khattak joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1991, and has since held several diplomatic posts in missions abroad.
