Painter caught with marijuana stashed inside broken arm cast

Police were tipped off about Bangladeshi, who had 35.4 grams of the drug in his cast and also at his home.

DUBAI // A painter caught hiding wraps of marijuana in the cast of his broken left hand was sentenced to four years in prison on Wednesday.

After receiving a tip-off about Bangladeshi BS, 34, a sting operation was carried out by Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department to apprehend the suspect near Port Rashid on October 22 last year.

Police officer AS testified: “We received highly credited information that the defendant is in possession of drugs, we secured the proper warrants from prosecution and assembled a team to apprehend the defendant.

“When we searched BS, we couldn’t locate the drugs on him, then we suspected the cast that he was wearing on his broken left hand.

“We found three wraps inside the cast that contained marijuana. Then we went on and searched his residence and we found an additional eight wraps of marijuana hidden in a cigarette box.”

The total amount of marijuana confiscated was 35.4 grams.

At Dubai Criminal Court, the defendant denied the charge of possession of drugs with the intent to sell but admitted to consuming marijuana.

He was found guilty and sentenced to four years in prison.
