UMM AL QUWAIN // A four-year-old Omani girl died on Thursday after being hit by a speeding car on a road in Umm Al Quwain, officials said.

The girl, identified as SH, was leaving Al Jazeera Park on Wednesday at 8pm with four of her family members, when she was hit by the car.

The incident happened while the family was entering a taxi cab, parked on the side of the road, said Col Mohammed Ibrahim Al Bayraq, the director of operations at UAQ police.

SH was taken to the emirate’s hospital where she was admitted to the ICU unit. She succumbed to her injuries on Thursday evening.

Col Al Bayraq said police have detained the Land Cruiser's driver, a 23-year-old Emirati man.
