No official FNC vote on sacking UAE utilities executive

The FNC has yet to reach a decision about whether the director general of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority should be fired.

DUBAI // Despite FNC members calling for the sacking of the director general of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, it was not an official council decision, a member said yesterday.

Hamad Al Rahoumi (Dubai) told audience members at a majlis meeting with Emiratis on Sunday night that the call for Mohammed Saleh to be fired was only the opinion of some members.

Mr Al Rahoumi said the members concluded this after researching the authority and finding numerous persistent problems such as electricity shortage and cuts, poor water quality, and even issues with national employees working there.

"It was a personal opinion, not from the FNC officially," he said. "Any member can give their opinion. It is only an FNC decision when a vote is taken and then a recommendation is passed to the Cabinet."

During the last FNC session, Mohamed Al Qubaisi (Abu Dhabi) had said that Mr Saleh should be fired. Faisal Al Teniji (RAK) and several other members agreed, but no vote was taken.
