Abu Dhabi // Nine business leaders have been chosen to take part in an international entrepreneurship gathering on Monday in Washington DC. The two-day Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship will be hosted by Barack Obama. The US president announced in a speech in Cairo last June that his administration would organise the event to deepen ties between business leaders and entrepreneurs in the US and the Muslim world.
The summit will be attended by 250 entrepreneurs from 50 countries, mostly those with predominantly Muslim populations. "I am particularly pleased to see a large delegation from the UAE," Richard Olson, the US ambassador to the UAE, said in a statement. "I firmly believe that the UAE participants in this presidential summit will bring a unique perspective from one of the most entrepreneurial economies in the region."
The summit will emphasise the role of entrepreneurship in dealing with common challenges and in building partnerships. Some of the issues scheduled to be discussed include technology and innovation, access to capital, youth entrepreneurship, networking and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship. Mr Obama said last month that he looked "forward to hosting several Emiratis at the Washington Entrepreneurship Summit", according to a statement issued by the White House after a meeting between Mr Obama and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
