New website promises to bolster consumer protection

Consumer protection is being ramped up in Ajman through a new specialist website to be launched during GITEX technology week.

The online consumer portal operated by the Department of Economic Development – Ajman will be unveiled at the Dubai World Trade Centre event between Sunday, October 8 and Thursday, October 12.

Consumer experts at the DED-Ajman said the site will offer a direct gateway to comprehensive and reliable information on consumer protection, laws and policies.

It is expected to help increase confidence in the local market whilst creating a fair consumer atmosphere helping encourage investment whilst driving up economic growth.

“We are confident this new website will play a key role in our continuing efforts to achieve the highest levels of consumer safety in the local markets,” said Mohammed Masood Al Kutbi, director of control and consumer protection, DED-Ajman.

“This initiative is part of our efforts to raise awareness about the rights and duties of consumers--a top priority for the department, complementing the national initiative to bring happiness to the people and ensure the welfare of our society.”

The website has been designed to accommodate a faster and more seamless way of consumers submitting complaints, feedback and suggestions.

It will also act as a single window offering information on community events and promotional offers by major companies in Ajman.

“We are upbeat in the potential opportunities of this new webpage,” said Aysha Al Shammari, acting director, Consumer Protection Division, DED-Ajman.

“This will bring more convenience to consumers and investors, in compliance with the country's efforts to achieve the highest level of consumer protection and market stability."

The Directorate of Consumer Protection and Control receives complaints, suggestions, opinions and notices of any problem through DED Ajman’s interactive channels, including toll free number (80070), or via email - info@ajmanded.ae.
