Commuters should see less congestion on the roads in Business Bay this month as phase two of the Parallel Roads Improvement Project is due to open on June 8.
The works will improve access to the western side of the project, between Al Meydan Street and Financial Street, widening the roads from three to four lanes in each direction.
Phase two of the development includes construction of a 240-metre flyover on the intersection of Al Sa’ada and Burj Khalifa Boulevard Streets.
Work is also complete on a 535 metre underpass and a 500 metre bridge crossing over the Dubai Water Canal.
The improvements are part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s strategic plan to ease congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road at peak times.
Other aspects of the development include a 340-metre underpass for horses crossing at the Dubai Stables and a 420-metre tunnel for traffic turning left from Al Sa’ada Street to Meydan Street.
The RTA said journey time between Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Street will reduce from 12 to 2.5 minutes, by increasing vehicle capacity to 20,000 vehicles an hour.
