New regulations governing food deliveries released
Delivery drivers must abide by new rules and regulations concerning the size and specification of containers used on the back of motorbikes.
Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority have set the manufacturing specifications for motorcycle-mounted food and mail delivery containers to ensure the safety of drivers and other road users and to maintain the quality of the food.
Major Saif Al Zaabi, director of vehicle licensing department at Abu Dhabi Police, said as of December 1 these specifications will be mandatory for issuing or renewing the ownership of motorcycles used in food and mail delivery.
The box measurements shouldn’t exceed 40cmx40cmx40cm. It should be mounted on the back of the motorcycle with a lid that opens to the front. The box’s outer layer should be plastic and its edges and corners rounded.
Major Al Zaabi added that the box should be equipped with illuminated panels on three sides. Written information should go on the illuminated panels and must be clear from a 20-metre distance. The edges of the box should have a red and white striped reflector band.
