ABU DHABI // Eight public parks and four children’s playgrounds will be added to the public facilities in Baniyas city, according to Abu Dhabi municipality.

Four parks are being designed while four others – in East 2-3, East 5, East 6-01 and East 6-04 – are being built and they are due for completion by the end of 2017.

The upgrading project for Baniyas Park, which spans more than 300,000 square metres, is aimed at keeping up with the needs of residents.

A playground, to be built in East 02-2, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Another in East 4 is due for completion by the end of 2016. Two other playgrounds in East 02-11 and East 7B are slated for completion in the middle of next year.

The municipality also plans to build parks in East 10-A, East 13, East 2-04 and East 6-3. Each will be between 4,500 and 6,000 square metres in size.

“It’s a great idea to build all these parks and playgrounds for children in Baniyas city,” said Rawya Mohammed, a Palestinian resident and a mother of two.

“When winter comes, the children will want to go out and play outdoors more. So this will really help us, as we won’t have to drive all the way down to the Corniche in Abu Dhabi for them to run around.

“I know many families for whom this will also be helpful because a day out in the park is so much better than keeping your children indoors because they can keep active and healthy.”
