ABU DHABI // Jiu-jitsu clubs and training centres are to open across the country and sponsorship will be offered to talented competitors.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has ordered gyms be set up in all emirates.

Sponsorship will be provided by public and private entities, companies and institutions.

The funding will allow competitors to excel in the sport, in the hope they can represent the UAE in international championships.

Talented grapplers from schools and universities will also be able to continue their education while pursuing a career in the sport.

Abdulmoniem Al Hashemi, chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said Sheikh Mohammed’s support was pushing the standards of jiu-jitsu to new levels of excellence, and was paving the way for an Emirati to shine at an international level.

He said the federation was thankful to Sheikh Mohammed for his appreciation, generosity and support in all sports, especially jiu-jitsu.
