Elderly Emiratis can now use their Emirates ID cards to access a variety of discounts and services.

UAE citizens aged 60 and above can take advantage of discounts at hotels, private clinics, home care centres, tourism and travel companies, and have easy access to government services, as part of a new initiative by the Ministry of Community Development.

Named Masarra, the card benefits were activated across all elderly Emiratis' Emirates IDs on Sunday. Senior citizens will not need to visit a government centre to be able to use their card.

The initiative aims to provide elderly citizens with easier access to services and improve their quality of life. It comes under the wider national Policy of Senior Emiratis that seeks to ensure the active participation of elderly citizens in society through programmes encouraging community outreach, active life, financial stability and quality of life.

"The idea aims to bring together, facilitate and speed up the process of providing priority services for senior Emiratis at the level of government and private agencies in the UAE, and that linking with Emirates ID will double the number of agencies that offer these privileges to senior Emiratis," said Hessa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development.
