DUBAI // The Central Bank is issuing new Dh1,000 and Dh100 notes with improved safety features.
The currency will be issued by banks from Saturday from bank counters and ATMs.
In July last year the Central Bank released a new Dh50 note. A new Dh500 note was issued in November 2011.
The metallic ink on the Dh1,000 and Dh100 notes has been replaced with colour-shifting ink, both on the UAE logo and on the security thread.
They also have new watermarks and see-through registers. In addition, fluorescent patterns, which can only be detected under ultraviolet light, have been printed throughout both denominations.
The Dh100 note was last reissued in March 2003, with additional security features, but the design has remained unchanged from the original, first printed in 1973.
One side features a picture of Dubai’s oldest building, Al Fahidi Fort, and on the other, the city’s first tower, the World Trade Centre.
The Dh1,000 note depicts Al-Hosn Palace, in Abu Dhabi, and on the reverse it shows a vista of the capital’s Corniche.
“The overall design and other specifications of the two notes will remain the same,” the Central Bank said in a statement.
