Khalifa University’s Abu Dhabi campus has won an award for its National Day celebrations.

It picked up the Best National Day 42 Celebration prize in the Exceptional University competition, which was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

A day of festivities was organised by students, faculty and staff and included a time-machine museum and a play about a student whose invention saves the world.

The students also ranked highly in other categories. Mohammed Abdulrazaq Hussain came in second in the category of Best National Short Movie for his film, Between the Past and the Future, and Meera Saeed Al Yammahi was the winner in the category of Best National Dress for girls over 16.

The ministry launched the awards to instil pride during National Day celebrations.

The awards also aimed to foster cooperation between the ministry and universities, and encourage the creative abilities of students.

Dr Mohammed Al Mualla, senior vice president of research at Khalifa University, said: “We are very pleased that our National Day Celebrations have been voted the best in the UAE.

“I would like to thank our students and staff for putting together such an enjoyable programme for National Day.

“Our students did an excellent job showcasing Emirati tradition and heritage, and engaging our non-Emirati staff and students in the festivities.

“We are moulding the next generation of leaders and it’s important that they recognise the achievements of the past as they move forward towards creating sustainable growth.”
