ABU DHABI // National Ambulance has responded to calls for 1,094 car accidents in the Northern Emirates during Ramadan and Eid.
Of those accidents, 134 took place during the during the Eid Al Fitr holidays, National Ambulance said on Wednesday.
It also responded to calls involving patients suffering from unconsciousness, diabetes and other illnesses, and abdominal pain.
The demand for its services increased in the Northern Emirates during the holy month and Eid, particularly during the times leading up to iftar and of taraweeh prayers.
It dealt with 6,329 calls made to its ambulance communication centre, of which 4,266 required an emergency response, during Ramadan and Eid.
Activity peaked both before and iftar, with a 33 per cent increase in the number of car accidents between 6pm and 7pm, and a 41 per cent rise between 9pm and 12am, compared with the same time during other months.
The National Ambulance 998 app, launched in May this year, was used on several occasions during Ramadan. It allows residents in the Northern Emirates to request an ambulance in an emergency.
