ABU DHABI // The municipality has destroyed more than five tonnes of expired and unlicensed products found in local shops, officials said yesterday.
The products included illegal health supplements, expired cosmetics and personal care items, cleaning materials and detergents and non-medical herbs.

Khaleefa Al Romaithi, the director of public health at the municipality, said all the destroyed products fell short of the country's health standards.
"The municipality will keep up the crackdown on markets, shops and beauty centres, as well as men's and women's saloons, in order to eliminate these harmful products, enhance compliance with the applicable health stipulations and ensure that all cosmetics conform to the standards in a way that serves the public health, community members and the economy, " Mr Al Romaithi said.
The products were destroyed at landfills in Hameem in Al Gharbia this week.
The municipality had confiscated the products in the last six months. Items included banned substances and products that were not properly labeled or did not have an expiry date.
As part of the municipality's efforts to step up enforcement, health inspectors will visit salons and shops more often, particularly in the evening hours.
