Multi-millions to be spent on roads and housing projects in UAQ

ABU DHABI// A Dh110 million roads project and a Dh22 million Emirati housing development have been approved for the northern emirate of Umm Al Quwain, the state news agency Wam reported.
The projects were approved by a special committee created to follow up on initiatives backed by the President, Sheikh Khalifa.
The roads project will streamline the Umm Al Quwain-Falaj Al Mualla intersection on Ittihad Road, also known as the E-11, the main entrance to Umm Al Quwain city. The intersection is currently an oval roundabout that fills with heavy traffic.
The new project will involve constructing a 50 meter long tunnel in the directions of Falaj Al Mualla-Umm Al Quwain and a flyover in the perpendicular directions of Sharjah-Ras Al Khaimah, "to ensure free flow of traffic," Wam said.
The project is part of ongoing federal plans to develop road networks in the country, connecting Ittihad road to other emirates.
The project is expected to be finished in one and a half years, Wam said.
The same committee also approved a project to build 27 villas for UAE citizens in the areas of Falaj Al Mualla and Shawka.
The committee met at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and was chaired by Ahmed Al Zaabi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs.
