ABU DHABI // The Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, arrives in the UAE today on an official visit as part of his GCC tour.
"The visit is a reflection of the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and the UAE, that began with the late Sheikh Zayed and continues with President Sheikh Khalifa," said the Egyptian ambassador to the UAE, Tamer Mansour.
The UAE visit is part of a week-long tour by president Mubarak that will include Bahrain and Qatar, and is said to be within the framework of "continuous consultations and cooperation" between the Egyptian president and GCC leaders.
"The tour reflects the deep-rooted relations between Egypt and GCC countries," said the ambassador, as reported by the official UAE news agency WAM.
The Egyptian president will be accompanied by an official delegation that includes Ahmad Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, the foreign minister, Anas al Fekki, minister of information, Rasheed Mohammad Rasheed, minister of commerce and industry, the Egyptian intelligence minister, Omar Sulaiman, and Zakariya Azmi, head of the President's Court.
During the visit, President Mubarak will discuss regional issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, which is facing setbacks, and the latest developments in Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Sudan, among other topics.
