Mother dies, son aged 2 hurt in car crash
ABU DHABI // A woman was killed and her two-year-old son was injured when their car slammed into a roadside barrier and caught fire, police said yesterday. The vehicle was travelling on a motorway in the direction of the capital when the crash occurred. Police provided no further information on the incident or the condition of the child, who was unrestrained in the front passenger seat.
Lt Col Mohammad al Mazroui, the head of Abu Dhabi Police highways section, appealed to parents to obey traffic laws and not allow children under the age of 10 in the front seat of a vehicle. There is no law making it mandatory for children to be restrained in the rear seat of cars. However, the federal traffic department is understood to be drafting rules mandating the use of child restraints. firstname.lastname@example.org
