The Faraj Fund has aided in the release of 2,085 inmates between May 2009 and last month, said Maj Gen Nasser Al Nuaimi, chairman of the fund.
Of those released, 105 were Emirati.
The fund also assisted 264 families, of whom 259 were Emirati, in the first eight months of this year.
Gen Al Nuaimi said financial assistance by the Faraj Fund to the welfare of inmates was Dh45.5 million.
Dh44.7m of that was used for settling the inmates’ debts and buying tickets for those who were deported.
