DUBAI// Special meetings are to be organised between the media and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Media Majlis will take place on a quarterly basis each year and aims to develop an open and direct dialogue between media and the Ruler of Dubai.

"Mohammed bin Rashid Media Majlis" emanates from his strong belief in the importance of listening to views, thoughts and suggestions of media persons, whether from UAE or from other Arab and foreign countries," said Mona Al Marri, director general of the Government of Dubai Media Office.

"Moreover, such initiative highlights Sheikh Mohammed's clear commitment to the media sector which mirrors the hopes, aspirations and requirements of the society and is regarded as a source of influence."

The meetings will be an informal platform for the exchange of views and opinions and done in a friendly atmosphere, said a statement from the media office.

The majlis will give a variety of media individuals and groups, both local and international, the opportunity to express their opinions to Sheikh Mohammed.

Sheikh Mohammed has already met with media earlier this year at the Government of Dubai Media Office headquarters.

This latest directive from the Dubai Ruler is part of a number of media related initiatives in the last 14 years including the establishment of the Dubai Press Club in 1999, the Arab Media Forum, the Arab Journalism Award as well as the launch of Dubai Media City.
