Missing man safe after 'ordeal'

Mohammed Thahseer Berka, a 28-year-old Indian who went missing in mysterious circumstances on March 25, has returned home.

DUBAI // Mohammed Thahseer Berka, who went missing in mysterious circumstances late last month, has returned home, his family said.

The man's father, Abdul Khader, had sought help from Musaffah Police Station in Abu Dhabi and through the media after his son disappeared on March 25. He expressed fears that his son might have been kidnapped.

Now, the family has said Mohammed has been in Ras Al Khaimah for the past four weeks, but refused to give details.

"We are just happy that he has come home," said his uncle, Ahmed Berka. "He returned home four days ago and is now with his father," said another family member, who added that Mohammed had been kidnapped but that the family had been asked to remain quiet until police inquiries were finished. "He is safe. We are happy that the ordeal is over."

Mohammed, a 28-year-old expatriate who owns phone shops in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, has been working in the Emirates for seven years.

"He went to visit one his relatives in Al Qusais," his father said at the time. "They asked him to stay for food but he got a call, and went downstairs … After some time, his phone was switched off and he went missing."

The father has also filed a complaint with the Indian Embassy.
