DUBAI // An awareness campaign has been launched by the permanent committee for labour affairs in Dubai to ensure that workers and companies adhere to the summer midday break rules in the emirate.

An estimated half million construction workers in Dubai will benefit from the Ministry of Labour’s three-month mandatory mid-day break regulation this year, and the labour committee will follow up on its enforcement.

Maj Gen Obaid Mohair bin Surour, deputy director of the General Directorate ofResidency and Foreigners affairs in Dubai, said that the committee will follow up on the implementation of the preventive measures to protect outdoor workers from the summer heat.

A team has been allocated by the committee to enforce the mid-day break rules.

The annual ban prevents labourers from carrying out any work under direct sunlight between 12pm and 3pm throughout the three-month period.
