DUBAI// To reduce queues at the Dubai Metro for commuters returning from the new year's eve festivities, passengers will be able to board without using their Nol cards at four Metro stations.
The Nol card gates at Emirates Towers, Financial Centre, Business Bay, and Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa stations will remain open after midnight to ensure less delays for the huge number of passengers the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is expecting on new year's eve.
Commuters will still have to use their Nol cards when they arrive at their destination. The system will automatically detect any Nol card that hadn't been activated for boarding and calculate the fare as coming from one of the four stations. All four stations are in the same zone, therefore their charges will be identical.
A spokesperson for the RTA told the National that though the system is being used for the first time on Tuesday, the RTA plans to use it for any occasion where they expect heavy traffic on the Metro.
