Men who raped mentally disabled boy sent to prison

Two men who raped a 17-year-old mentally disabled boy have been found guilty and sent to prison.

DUBAI // Two men who lured, raped, and sexually molested a 17-year-old mentally disabled boy on two different occasions in his neighbourhood were found guilty by a Dubai court this morning, and were sentenced to prison.

B K, 36, a farmer from Pakistan, was sentenced to five years in prison. Y R, 34, a tailor from India, was sentenced to three years.

Both men denied the charges when they first appeared in court on August 16 last year.

The case is the third one at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance since June 2010 that involves mentally challenged boys who have been raped.

In the latest case, on December 12, 2009 the boy went to the local grocery store and met B K.

B K presented him with pornographic material on his mobile phone, then lured him to an abandoned villa behind the Iranian Hospital, telling him that he could enjoy the videos there. The man then raped the boy, handed him Dh20, and asked him to go home.

The boy, according to public prosecutors, has been mentally disabled since birth and cannot properly evaluate dangerous situations.

Upon his return home, the boy informed his neighbour, and police were called to search the area. While police were questioning the boy, he presented them with an accurate description of B K, which was then illustrated.

The boy also told investigators about the Indian tailor who molested him. He said the tailor had given him fruits a few months earlier, and asked him to join him at his flat. When the boy went to the flat, Y R sexually molested him.

Y R was arrested upon re-entering the country at Dubai International Airport after an arrest warrant was issued for him. B K was apprehended after investigators circulated his illustration and located him in al Satwa district.

Both men will be deported after serving their prison terms.
