Men arrested for New Year’s Eve Dubai fire selfie released

Attorney general of Dubai, Essam Al Humaidan, said the public prosecution released the young men after a thorough investigation and review of the posted picture.

ABU DHABI // Two men who were arrested for posting a selfie on social media with The Address Downtown fire in the background on New Year’s Eve have been released.

Essam Al Humaidan, Attorney General of Dubai, said the prosecutor’s office released the young men after an investigation and review of the image.

The public prosecution has closed the case since no evidence of criminal intent was established, according to Wam, the state news agency.

Mr Al Humaidan asked the public to exercise caution and discretion when posting any material on social media.

The attorney general called on all individuals to adhere to laws by refraining from spreading rumours, defaming others or violating other people’s freedom online.
