Motorists in Abu Dhabi could soon have cameras monitoring their parking and be issued tickets electronically if parking illegally.

The Integrated Transport Center on Wednesday said it had developed a new system to regulate parking in different areas of the capital.

As part of the first phase, systems will be installed in Al Mussaffah, Mohammed bin Zayed City and Abu Dhabi island.

The new system will allow for large areas of parking bays to be monitored from an operations room without parking inspectors having to be outside during the summer months, said Mohammed Al Muhairi, Deputy General Manager of the Integrated Transport Center and the Director of the Traffic and Parking Team.

Parking vehicles is free for the first 10 minutes, while people parking outside mosques for prayers are afforded 45 minutes of free parking after the call to prayer provided they park correctly.

Mr Al Muhairi urges drivers to avoid violating Mawaqif regulations.
