Man with mental disorder charged with groping Dubai shopper

The 33-year-old man has not had his illness diagnosed as he refuses to undergo any tests.

DUBAI // A man who suffers from a mental disorder after several traffic accidents is accused of molesting a female shopper at a mall.

The 33-year-old Emirati, SA, has not had his illness diagnosed because he refuses to undergo any tests, claiming: “I don’t take medications, they are not good for health.”

The victim, 36, said in police records that she was with her two-year-old son waiting to pay for her groceries at a hypermarket in Mall of the Emirates on January 27 when the defendant groped her and kept touching her until she screamed.

“He tried to run away but the people around caught him and the security guard arrived and told me the man was known to them because he had done the same thing with other women,” the victim told Dubai Criminal Court on Monday.

However, SA said: “This is not true, it was jammed near the cashier and, when I tried to squeeze myself out of the crowd, my body touched her by mistake. I’m not guilty — they charged me of something I didn’t do.”

A verdict is expected on November 18.
