A 30-year-old worker who stepped in to break up a fight between two men died after being stabbed by one of them.

The African man was found dead at a labour accommodation in an industrial area in Ajman during the last week of Ramadan, Ajman Police said on Tuesday.

“We received a report of a strong, bad odour coming from one of the labour accommodation rooms in the industrial area and a police patrol was dispatched to find a dead body of an African national,” said Captain Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, deputy director of the Criminal Investigations Department.

A team of investigators questioned workers in the area and managed to find the man who was involved in the argument and had witnessed the murder, the captain said.

The witness said the argument broke out between him and the 37-year-old defendant and it escalated into a fight.

“As we were fighting, the victim tried to break up the fight but suddenly the defendant took out a knife and stabbed him then ran away,” said the witness, who got scared and didn’t know what to do so he left the man on the floor, bleeding, and ran away too.

Police said that the defendant admitted the crime and that he has been referred to prosecutors to be charged with premeditated murder.
