A man who physically and verbally assaulted a motorist after refusing to move his car which was blocking traffic was fined Dh5,000 by Dubai Court of Misdemeanour.

On June 3, the Egyptian defendant, who is a marketing manager, was in the passenger seat of a Ford Mustang which was blocking traffic while parked on the service road near Sheikh Zayed Road.

The victim, a man driving his car and accompanied by his wife, asked the defendant to move the car but the accused signalled at him to drive around him.

“A woman was driving, I honked my horn at her three short times so she could move her car but the accused stepped out of the car and came to my window,” the victim told the court.

He said the man punched him in the face then began insulting him and his wife. He said he used foul language and disrespected religion.

The victim called police but the defendant, who was identified by witnesses, had left the area and did not answer police calls.

Police tracked the man down and arrested him at a hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road on August 10.

"During questioning, he denied any relation to the incident and even denied being involved in any fight in that exact location," said a policeman.
In court last May, the defendant denied charges of assault, issuing insults and disrespecting religion. On Sunday he was convicted and fined Dh5,000.
