DUBAI // A jobless Emirati sentenced to five years in jail for giving his girlfriend the drugs that killed her has lost his appeal.

The man, 33, confessed only to possession of drugs for personal use and denied charges of facilitating drugs and consuming drugs at Dubai Criminal Court, but he was found guilty of all charges.

On August 12, 2015 police received a report that a woman’s body had been left at the entrance of a hospital in Al Mankhoul.

“The forensic expert told us she was dead and there were injection marks on her left arm,” said a police officer, 26.

Security footage showed a white vehicle dropping off the woman, 25, before driving away.

“He was arrested near his home in Al Quoz and, during questioning, told us the woman’s identity,” the officer said.

“He said they had been together for two days and at night they would sleep in the car because he had no cash to rent a hotel room.”

The policeman said the man denied giving the woman drugs, saying that she had her own prescription. He claimed to have become worried after she fainted, so he dropped her at the hospital.

A Dh20,000 fine issued to him was also upheld by Dubai Court of Appeal.
