Man who blackmailed boy into letting him molest him is jailed

He faces further charges for owning child pornography

A man who blackmailed a boy into allowing him to sexually abuse him will spend three months in prison after being convicted by Dubai Criminal Court.

The Emirati man, 33, faces further charges at Dubai Court of Misdemeanours.

The defendant was arrested on June 9 after his victim, a 17-year-old Emirati boy, reported him to police. The boy told police he was being threatened and blackmailed by the man after sending him photographs through social media.

The boy said he first spoke to the man on Snapchat last year and the two began exchanging naked pictures of themselves.

“Then he disappeared for a while and, when he contacted me again, he asked that we meet,” the boy said.

When they met, the accused threatened to expose the boy by showing his family the photos if he did not allow him to sexually abuse him.

“He threatened to post my pictures online and even send them to my family but what really scared me was that he knew information about my family. So I gave in and did what he wanted,” the boy said.

“He showed me several clips of other children who he said he had done the same thing to – lured them in on social media, convinced them to send their pictures before using the pictures to threaten the youngsters and abuse them sexually."

Afterwards, the man continued to blackmail the teenager but, this time, asking for money.

“I paid him Dh400 but realised that he would keep doing this so I decided to go to police,” the boy said.

When he filed the report, police records revealed that the man had committed a similar crime in 2012.

Investigators seized three mobile phones from him where they found more than 3,000 pornographic images, 250 pornographic videos involving children and records of many illicit chats with others online.

Dubai Criminal Court convicted him of sexual assault and threatening to defame a juvenile by posting indecent images of him online.

The defendant will now go on trial at the court of misdemeanours to face an additional charge of possessing child pornography.
