DUBAI // A man awoke to find his villa had been burgled while he slept and police had already arrived to investigate.

CN, 47, from France, was woken by his maid who told him police were on waiting on the doorstep of his villa in Al Safa.

“They asked if they could search the house for any missing items and we found that a laptop computer, digital camera, and a pack of cigarettes were missing,” he told the Criminal Court yesterday.

Officers immediately handed him back the laptop. They said they had been passing near his villa on a routine patrol when they spotted the burglars who discarded the laptop as they fled.

“Days later police arrested the men and returned my camera and pack of cigarettes too,” said the man.

Police officer AN, 31, testified that KT, 45 and JK, 35, both from China, were arrested and their houses searched. The search uncovered a large quantity of items that had been stolen from various homes.

Prosecutors said the burglary took place in May 2011.

In court, both men denied charges of burglary.

A verdict is expected on November 10.
