A man who sexually harassed a woman then beat her when she defended herself from him will spend six months in prison.
The Nepalese woman, 25, was walking in Al Rafaa at about 9am on March 7 when the Egyptian unemployed man, 30, grabbed her bottom.
The woman screamed and shoved him away but he punched and slapped her. Passersby heard the woman’s screams and ran to her aid, restraining the accused while she called for police.
“Two officers happened to be patrolling the area and passed by us at the time so I signalled them and they arrested him,” the woman told the court.
The man was arrested and, during questioning, admitted to touching the woman’s bottom but denied hitting her.
On Sunday, Dubai Criminal Court convicted him of sexual and physical assault and sentenced him to six months in prison, after which he will be deported.
He can appeal his sentence within two weeks.
