SHARJAH // A Pakistai man is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from a bridge over a motorway and being hit by a car.

The man, identified as BB, 26, was putting up an advertising poster at the Khulafaa Rashideen interchange bridge in the Al Khan neighbhourhood when he lost his balance and fell from scaffolding onto Al Wahda road below.

He was hit by a car as he was lying on the road. The driver did not stop at the scene, a police spokesman said. The accident happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning when traffic on the highway was quiet.

An ambulance took the injured man to Al Qassimi hospital. Dr Mahmoud Zine Al Abidine, an orthopaedic consultant, said the man is in a critical condition and is in the intensive care unit.

An ultrasound revealed he suffered injuries to the neck, chest, pelvis and his brain. Dr Al Abidine said he also suffered an internal hemorrhage and doctors were trying to drain the blood using a chest tube.

Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver and are questioning the advertising company that employed the injured man.
