Man 'had drugs worth Dh320,000'
Dubai // Undercover officers caught a drug dealer in possession of Dh320,000 worth of hashish, police claimed yesterday.
AR, an Asian man in his 50s, was charged with possession and drug trafficking after allegedly trying to sell one of the officers some hashish during a sting operation in Deira's Al Hamriya district recently.
Police said AR arrived at a car park carrying two plastic bags containing 10.4 kilograms of hashish, which he placed in the front seat of the undercover officers' vehicle before trying to flee the scene. The anti-narcotics team arrested AR before visiting his home in Hor Al Anz, where they claim to have found another 30kg of hashish.
Maj Gen Abdul Jaleel Mahdi Mohammed, the director of the general department of anti-narcotics at Dubai Police, said two men had smuggled the drugs in from a neighbouring Gulf country. The drugs are believed to have originated in Asia.
He said authorities were working together to track the two smugglers.
Two Asian men already serving jail time in the Gulf country were also suspected of involvement in the drug ring. Maj Gen Mohammed said those involved were professional dealers due to their skill in executing the crime.
