Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a suspected drug dealer, his alleged colleague and an alleged client after catching the man with 50kg of hashish and Dh400,000, officials said yesterday.

During the sting operation against NMK, a 22-year-old unemployed man, police said they found the drugs hidden in 94 plastic boxes labelled as containing beauty products.

Police had been monitoring the man since the middle of last month, after receiving documents relating to a potential drug smuggling operation.

Police said they had waited until he had acquired the hashish, arranged a sale and then hidden the drugs in two bags on the side of a road before moving in to arrest him.

"After making sure of the [information] … a working group was formed to try to keep track of the merchant … not rush the arrest, and see who was involved with him," said Brig Hammad Ahmed al Hamadi, the director of criminal investigation for the Abu Dhabi Police.

Police arrested the suspected potential buyer, a 28-year-old unemployed man identified as AAK. A suspected colleague of the dealer, a 30-year-old Arab university student identified as BMT, was placed under surveillance and also later arrested, police said.
