A driver sexually assaulted a woman outside her apartment after she turned down his advances, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said the Filipina restaurant manager was walking home after work at nearly 1.35am on May 3 this year in Al Jafflia when she felt she was being followed.

“I took a turn from the main road to a small dark one that leads to my apartment when a man came towards me and asked that we get together and asked for my phone number,” the 31-year-old said.

The woman refused his advances and began walking faster, not realising the man had followed her home, the court was told.

She said she was unlocking her door when the 28-year-old pounced and started kissing her.

The man allegedly kissed her face, neck and touched her private parts as she screamed and tried to push him away.

Her neighbours heard the screams and chased the man down, she said.

“They caught him and brought him back to the building then I called police,” she said.

“During police questioning after we apprehended him, he admitted sexually assaulting the woman,” an Emirati policeman said.

The man denied the sexual assault charge in court and will be given his verdict on July 30.
