A man helped cause the death of his friend by heroin overdose, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Thursday.
Prosecutors said that on October 21 last year, at 9am, police received a report of a dead body behind a building in Al Satwa.
"We rushed to the scene and found the body next to a car, we then cordoned off the area to preserve evidence for forensic experts," said a 35-year-old police officer.
He said drugging tablets, needles and other items were found scattered around the body of the Emirati man, whose age was not provided in court records.
"All evidence was collected and packed to be sent to the criminal lab," the officer said.
Investigations found that the man death was caused by an overdose on heroin.
Prosecutors said DNA found on the same needle which the deceased used belonged to the 36-year-old unemployed defendant who was arrested on November 9.
The defendant did not attend court to face a charge of facilitating drug consumption and causing the death of a man.
A verdict is expected on September 28.
