A man is facing robbery charges after returning to the UAE three years after he fled the country.

The Sri Lankan, 47, allegedly broke into a villa in Al Barsha 2 in July 2015 with two other men from the same country.

The men are accused of stealing SR550,000, US $150,000, Fr7,000, €4,000, two safes containing jewelry, diamonds worth hundreds of thousands of dirhams and important official documents.

Police investigations revealed the trio left the country on July 29, 2015, but one of them returned in August this year.
The suspect was apprehended in Sharjah for his involvement and during questioning he informed police of the whereabouts of one of his accomplices.
He allegedly admitted stealing a car with the other two men and then breaking into the villa.
"He said they all wore gloves and masks, then climbed the wall, broke through a door and stole the items, before leaving carrying the two safes," a policeman said.
In court on Wednesday, two of the three men appeared. Both denied robbery charges, and the third remains at large.
The next hearing will be on January 9.
