DUBAI // A man crept into the bedroom of a teenage girl in the middle of the night and molested her, a court heard.

Bangladeshi Z Z, 25, denies sexual assault and trespassing, and said he only confessed during interviews because he was beaten by police.

The girl, 14, from Canada, said she pretended to be asleep while he was in her room.

“The lights were off in my room but the light of the living room was slightly lighting my room. He came in and remained inside the room for about 10 minutes. At first he sat on my bed, so I pretended to be still sleeping and turned my back at him. He then touched me,” said the girl in prosecution records.

Her mother, 43, called police just before 3am after the girl said a man had been in her room.

“She told me that she woke up to a strange man going through items in her room, so she pretended to be still sleeping. He touched her back and behind before leaving as he came in,” the mother said.

The Bangladeshi was arrested soon after in an abandoned villa.

“During investigations he told me that he used the light from his mobile phone to look at the girl’s face, so she woke up and he ran away,” said Emirati policeman E O, 27.

The next hearing at Dubai Criminal Court will be on February 24.
