A worker accused of carrying out a supermarket sex attack on a nine-year-old girl has won an appeal against his jail term.
The cashier, 39, was initially convicted of the charge and sentenced to six months imprisonment at Dubai Criminal Court.
Prosecutors appealed for a harsher sentence while the defendant, who was due to be deported after the sentence was completed, challenged his conviction.
The man had been accused of cornering the Sudanese girl near the candy aisle of a hypermarket in Al Barsha, Dubai, and touching her against her will, according to court records.
The incident was alleged to have taken place on February 13 of this year.
The man, from India, was arrested but continued to deny the charge during police questioning and in court.
His sentence was overturned at the appeals court.
A reason for his acquittal was not made available.
