A man beat and raped a woman while filming the assault on his phone, Dubai Criminal Court has been told.
The attack happened on June 4, after the Emirati defendant called the Egyptian woman, 23, claiming he had something to tell her about an argument she had with a mutual friend.
The two agreed to meet at the man's home in Dubai’s International City, but when the woman arrived the defendant grabbed her and threw her over his shoulder.
“I thought he was joking and I asked him to put me down but he wouldn’t," she said. "He took me to his bedroom and locked the door then threw away the key."
The woman told prosecutors that she tried to get away from the defendant, 24, but he pulled her back into the room, hit her with a heavy object and proceeded to beat and kick her.
Prosecutors said she tried to fight him off by biting his finger and scratching him, but he continued his assault and began recording himself abusing her.
“He ripped off my clothes," she said. "I tried to cover up with the sheet but he pulled it away and recorded me as he assaulted me while naked. He kept repeating ‘look how I am beating her’".
The defendant raped the woman twice before letting her leave, the court heard.
“As I was stepping out of his room, he whispered in my ear saying that I should leave my hair loose to cover up the bruises,” the victim said. She then called the police.
An Emirati police officer told the hearing: “We saw bruises on her face when we arrived. We took her to Rashid Hospital then documented her statement before we had an arrest warrant issued the same day." He said they arrested the defendant at his villa.
During questioning, the man denied the woman’s story and said that they had consensual sex.
“I headed to the bathroom to wash when I spotted her stealing an envelope containing Dh50,000 from my drawer. I became angry and hit her,” he said.
Dubai Criminal Court charged the man with two counts of rape and with making a video recording of the alleged assault. He denies all the charges.
The next hearing is scheduled for September 12.
