Man attacked woman during study session, Dubai court hears

The pair frequently studied together and the reason for their fight is unclear

A fight between two friends led to a woman having her face broken by a man, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The Indian pair of university students met at the Indian woman’s home in Al Qusais on March 24 last year to study together — as they often did.

The two got into an argument and the man, 22, allegedly slapped and punched the left side of the 36-year-old woman’s face.

She said she fell to the ground and he stamped on her neck and stomach.

“He then took me to Rashid Hospital and said he will pay the treatment costs of Dh25,000,” she said.

The woman reported him at Al Qusais Police Station the next day.

The reason for the fight was not disclosed in court records but police and prosecutors said the accused admitted to assaulting his friend, during questioning.

A medical evaluation showed the woman had been physically attacked and left with fractures on the left side of her face. The assault adversely affected hearing and sight, the report revealed.

The man did not attend court on Wednesday to enter a plea.

The next hearing is scheduled for June 12 to summon the defendant.
