AJMAN // A Bangladeshi man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a compatriot by cutting off his head and burying it in the desert after a fight over a Dh5,000 debt.
The 32-year-old victim was killed in Sharjah last month. He is believed to have been friends with the suspect, who fled to Ajman where he was arrested.
Col Abdullah Seif Al Matrooshi, the director of CID at Ajman police, said the family of the dead man filed a missing person's report on April 8, two days before the body was discovered in the university district of Sharjah.
"The murder was a result of a financial dispute between the two parties who had been friends," he said. "The suspect owed the deceased Dh5,000."
When officers found the victim's body it had already started to decompose.
The victim's head had been removed from its body. He had been stabbed many times.
Col Al Matrooshi said investigations into the murder were carried out with Sharjah police but the case would be referred to prosecutors in Sharjah as that is where the crime took place.
