A man was arrested for allegedly selling fake holiday packages and airline tickets worth more than Dh400,000 from a travel agency in Khorfakkan.

“Victims lodged several complaints about a travel agency in Khorfakkan for selling fake airline tickets and holiday packages, including hotel reservations," said Brig Saif Mohammed Al Zari, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police.

The man scammed holidaymakers out of Dh400,000 before being arrested while trying to leave the country.

A newly-wed couple were two of the people scammed by the man after planning a trip to the Maldives for their honeymoon. They planned their holiday with the travel agent and paid him but discovered there were no tickets or hotel reservations after arriving at the airport, according to Sharjah Police.

Brig Al Zari urged residents not to fall prey for online products at low prices and to deal with reliable and well-known companies.

The suspect has been referred to public prosecution for trial.
