Man arrested after 'staging murder as suicide' in RAK labour camp
CID suspected the suicide had been staged after noticing the body was irregularly positioned
A man was arrested in Ras Al Khaimah on suspicion of strangling his colleague and making his death look like suicide.
CID officers were dispatched to a labour camp in the emirate where an Asian man was found dead in his room, said Col Abdullah Ali Mankhas, director of the criminal investigations department at RAK police.
“The deceased’s body was on his bed and a scarf was around his neck.”
He said they first suspected the murder had been staged as a suicide after noticing the position of the scarf around the deceased’s neck and the position of the body were not consistent with suicide.
The body was referred to a coroner while crime scene investigators, including fingerprint technicians, assessed the scene.
The coroner’s report revealed the deceased was strangled and that it was a murder not a suicide, according to RAK police.
Col Al Mankhas said officers identified two suspects, one of whom was related to the deceased.
“After questioning, the Asian man admitted to his crime and said he had a verbal fight with the deceased that became physical. Then, he used a piece of cloth to strangle the victim,” said Col Al Mankhas.
“The suspect tried to make it look like a suicide, but failed due to the expert police officers and CID team,” said Col Al Mankhas.
