Man admits attack with bar
DUBAI // An Indian construction worker yesterday admitted in court that he had hit a Filipino colleague on the head with a metal bar while he was in bed, but denied he was trying to kill him. The victim, SJ, 28, told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance that on Sept 16 last year he had gone to his room for a nap after lunch and awoke to find ON, 24, standing over him with the long metal bar.
He said ON hit him on the head. "At that point I lost consciousness and cannot remember what happened next," SJ said. The forensic report on SJ's injuries said he had sustained substantial brain damage that led to a loss of his balance, meaning he cannot walk unaided. The report also said the victim lost pieces of bone from his skull at the point of impact, which has exposed his brain to more damage. It said SJ sustained 80 per cent permanent disability as a result of the attack.
ON, charged with attempting to kill his colleague, said through a translator that he struck SJ but had no intention of killing him. The court adjourned the case until next month. email@example.com
